About the Blog

This is a running record of the work Jason and Lena are doing to bring a 1978 VW Bus back to life. She was very close to death's door when we bought her.

We now have a functional vacationmobile that we are taking on adventures. So, this blog has morphed into a travelogue sprinkled with our break-down stories and latest upgrades. Hopefully more of the latter!

Look back in the archive for ALL the work we did to get her where she is today.

Enjoy :)

Mice! Where's the Cheese?

We have pulled the interior out of Miranda so we can store parts we don't need.  Oh yeah, and so we can start refurbishing the interior to use in Suzanne.

Miranda "before"  Like the incense burner we found?
It seems that some mice took up residence in the roof above the driver and passenger seats.  Jason said that he could hear things moving around up there when he drove it home but we didn't expect.......

THIS!

Or THIS!
Thankfully, most of what you see is seeds, not what we thought it was at first.  There was 3L or more of seeds stored up there along with chewed insulation and other "leavings".  It was at least a level 5 hoard.  Needless to say, we are going to come up with another alternative for the front headliner!
Miranda (after) see how the mice got in?
The metal seat-backs are needed to install the furniture, Jason is removing them from Miranda (she won't miss them - I hope!)

The Happy Painter

And in this picture you will see some happy trees, happy tikis and a happy volcano.

Once the wardrobe is in the van, the passenger rear window is covered up.  Westfalia made this work by stapling a curtain to a piece of wood that was put up in the window.

We have decided to take it up a notch and put in some fine art.  We came up with a bunch of pictures we liked, put them together and painted them onto the inside of the window glass.

Enjoy!
