About the Blog

This is a running record of the work Jason and Lena are doing to bring a 1978 VW Bus back to life. She was very close to death's door when we bought her.

We now have a functional vacationmobile that we are taking on adventures. So, this blog has morphed into a travelogue sprinkled with our break-down stories and latest upgrades. Hopefully more of the latter!

Look back in the archive for ALL the work we did to get her where she is today.

Enjoy :)

A wee bit more...

Took forever though!
The canvas anchoring and installation of the luggage rack was a major pain!  We got it done though - phew....

A few other bits as well.

Roof is fitted
J says hello!
Seats are in the front.  Right cushy they are!

Tomorrow- completion (I hope) of the wiring - better not be any trouble shooting to come :) and starting the engine build.

TA!

Oh boy, it's starting to look like a van!

I must apologize for not posting while some much has been happening.  That is the reason why I haven't posted though - I've been so busy!

Suzanne is lookin' mighty fine (after a whole lotta sanding)

Suzanne is finally showing her original colours.
We have to admit that we had NO idea how much work went into a paint job!
Lots and lots and lots of sanding and taping.
Here is the result:

Wet-Sanding the Primer

Sealing all the seams

More Seam Sealer

Wrapping her up

Fox Red

Lookin' Foxy without the masking tape and paper

Masking off the red

Doesn't look like much to paint

Date Brown

And again

Now She is Two-Toned

Another view

Clear Coat

Lookin' Mighty Fine!

We still have all the doors to do in base colour and clear.  Final Assembly coming up too!
Cheers

The nose job begins

Suzanne looked like she needed a bit of freshening up. So, like any lady that has been in pictures, she is getting a nose job.

She is ready to have the new nose installed tomorrow. Just gotta clean up the Rust-Mort along the windshield lip.

I am not a fan of Fibreglass!

The pop-top is off again after some adjustments and it is getting a make-over.
I have discovered that fiberglass repair is relatively easy. BUT, boy do I hate the feeling of that dust imbedding in my arms.  Yuck

Here are some pics:
Pressure washing (step 1) looks happy to be clean :)

Front part after filling cracks and the first coat of paint.

A preview for the next batch of work
A lost picture from the Show N' Shine.  It's pretty fun to make car-car noises but  firing up the engine will be much better.

Cheers!
