About the Blog

This is a running record of the work Jason and Lena are doing to bring a 1978 VW Bus back to life. She was very close to death's door when we bought her.

We now have a functional vacationmobile that we are taking on adventures. So, this blog has morphed into a travelogue sprinkled with our break-down stories and latest upgrades. Hopefully more of the latter!

Look back in the archive for ALL the work we did to get her where she is today.

Enjoy :)

So close...

Well, the electrical works except the right front marker light.  The engine runs but.. Low idle miss on cylinder #1 and a lifter noise. We are sure hoping that it will go away with running!!!!!   The silly throttle pedal is starting to break. Good hung our new supplier http://www:c1p. ca has one. It goes forwards and back.

Here's some pics:

What we did yesterday

Here's what we did yesterday:
Engine time and seal is in

Wiring is done and the fuel pump is in.

Today is:
Exhaust fabrication and install
Block off fuel return at the tank
Adjust clutch cable
Install and adjust throttle cable
Shifter linkage
Set points
Oil in engine and transaxle

Will it run? - I'll keep you posted!

Square pegs and round holes

After some serious maneuvering, the engine is in place!

Mating the engine and trans under the van didn't work out so well so we had to pull it back and mate them first.

More fiddling and it is in.. An hour or so later......

Jasper is getting tired of waiting. Poor pup!

See you tomorrow!  Big day ahead!

A little smile

Had to post this one - Jasper test drives the front seat.

Lead up to the big show

Well, the engine was dragged up the side of the house to the garage on a dolly-a rather comical affair. We have our basement back. Woot! Woot!

The clutch is in and the transaxle is prepped. Gonna get some big jacks and get that baby installed post-haste.

We also got the wiring harness connected at the front. No more dangly bits:)

Carbs x 2

Got the dual carbs on the engine.
Only thing left is to sort the exhaust out, install the engine, fill up the oil and install the fuel pump  (to get it running that is...few more things to get it moving)
