I've figured out how to post from my phone so you may get more now. Suzanne can't believe how things have changed. In her day I would have had I put pen to paper!
We got the valve train in finally. Hope it is tickety-poo. It has compression in all four cylinders at least.
Suzanne is a lovely Volkswagen camper van with a 2.0L engine. She's even a Champagne Edition!
About the Blog
This is a running record of the work Jason and Lena are doing to bring a 1978 VW Bus back to life. She was very close to death's door when we bought her.
We now have a functional vacationmobile that we are taking on adventures. So, this blog has morphed into a travelogue sprinkled with our break-down stories and latest upgrades. Hopefully more of the latter!
Look back in the archive for ALL the work we did to get her where she is today.
Enjoy :)

Starting the front brakes
We got the front wheels off and the brakes apart. Now it's off to the shop for hub changing, new bearing packing and front wheel painting.
BTW: that's red paint on the floor from a paint can shaking incident, not something to report to the authorities.

More on the Engine
So here is were we are with the engine.....

We are here and not running due partly to hibernation this winter but also to:
- We converted to hydraulic lifters. The supplier sent us the correct cam, lifters and valve springs in the head. Did not however mention that we needed new (shorter) pushrods and new (thicker) shims to go between the spring and the rocker arms on the rocker shaft. We have got cut-to-length push-rods and shims that are close but need to be machined in the centre bore so they can slide onto the rocker shaft (in process). Blahhh!!!
- Trying to figure out where the bung for the cylinder head temp guage is and realizing that we got two of the head that doesn't have it. Same supplier! Not sure how we are going to deal with that yet....
Some Forgotten Footage
Hello All!
I must apologize for my tardiness in posting. We have been struggling with engine parts. I'll explain more in my next post.
For now, I'll post up some wiring pics so you can sympathize if it doesn't all work on the first go.
Cheers!
